3 Reasons Why You Should Get Your Broken Windshield Fixed

Posted on

Do you have a windshield that's been damaged by flying debris? Have you been putting off repairing or replacing the glass? If you've been avoiding dealing with a damaged windshield, you're not alone. Many people put this off for as long as possible, due to a variety of reasons. But, obviously, ignoring the issue isn't exactly going to make it go away. If knowing this isn't enough to get you to make an appointment with your local auto glass shop, here are a few more reasons why you should have the issue taken care of as soon as possible:

Avoid a ticket: In many municipalities, having a cracked or otherwise damaged windshield is a ticketable offense. Sometimes, the damage has to be in a certain area or of a certain size before you can get a ticket, but this isn't universally true. You could also come across a police officer who decides to write you a ticket anyway. Even though you may be able to get the ticket dismissed relatively easily, you still would have to take time off to deal with the situation. Avoid this entirely by taking your vehicle into a shop that offers auto glass services.

Little to no cost to you: This can vary greatly depending on the damage in question and your insurance policy, but it is often true. Many auto glass services will either pay a portion of your insurance deductible, or they give you a gift card to a local store that is of a similar value. Instead of trying to choose between replacing your windshield or buying groceries, you may be able to find an auto glass shop with a promotion that will easily allow you to do both. In addition, it's possible that the damage is a good candidate for a repair, instead of a replacement. If this is the case, repairs often cost a fraction of the cost of even the lowest insurance deductibles, due to the small amount of time and labor involved in the repair.

Small time investment: It used to be that you would have to take your vehicle to an auto glass shop and leave it there for at least a day, while they replaced the windshield. This is no longer the case. In many instances, an auto glass services company now offers mobile services. Whether a repair or a replacement is necessary, they can come to you at work or at your home and have it done there. Even when mobile replacement or repairs aren't offered, better materials and tools can mean that your windshield is repaired or replaced in the shop in less time than it would take to watch a movie.
